My lab is broadly interested in how gene expression is controlled during the cell cycle. In budding yeast, almost 1/3 of the genome is periodically transcribed during the cell cycle! I am testing the hypothesis that transcription factor (TF) repressors form negative feedback loops that are required for cell-cycle transcription to fire once-and-only-once per cell cycle. I am also studying TF protein expression dynamics to ask about the relationship between periodic transcription and protein translation during the cell cycle.
