Zakiya Whatley

After graduating from Hampton University in 2007, I entered graduate school at Duke through the Cell & Molecular Biology umbrella program. In 2008, I affiliated with the University Program in Genetics and Genomics. I am a member in the lab of Kenneth Kreuzer, Biochemistry. My research focuses on quinolone-induced DNA damage in Escherichia coli. Our goal is to understand the generation and processing of DNA breaks and discern the mechanisms bacteria use to overcome quinolone action, including repair of the DNA breaks.
