Laura Simmons

Hi!  I went to high school in Albuquerque, NM and college at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY where I majored in molecular biology.  I came to Duke in 2003 through the Cell and Molecular Biology program.  I joined Steve Haase's lab and UPGG in 2004.

Our lab uses budding yeast to understand important events in the cell cycle. My project concerns the regulation of the yeast microtubule organizing center, the spindle pole body.  I am trying to understand the mechanisms that allows this organelle to duplicate once and only once per cell cycle. This regulation is essential for the cell to set up a bipolar spindle and go through a successful mitosis.
