I attended undergrad at Georgia Tech and spent 2 years working as a technician at Emory University working on DNA repair pathways in yeast. After doing this work, my interests have shifted a little and I have found myself drawn to translational research. I am generally interested in genome architecture, gene networks, and how current genomic technologies can be applied in a clinically relevant manner. There are a number of innovative labs addressing different issues surrounding these topics, and with both the IGSP, the CHG, and other resources this is a great place to be for this type research.
Outside of the lab, the town provides enough entertainment and things to do that I'm never bored (but it also isn't so distracting that I'm not getting work done). The photo above was part of a scavenger hunt in Raleigh. I don't have a car, so I bike or take public transit most places when possible. There are a number of bike trails that cut through the town and there is a fairly large biking community in the town. So far I'm enjoying my stay here in Durham and I'm expecting that will continue throughout the rest of it.
