Stephanie Mauthner

Hi, my name is Stephanie Mauthner and I entered the UPGG program in 2006. I am originally a native Floridian who went to the University of Florida (Go Gators!) for my undergraduate work. During my time there I was fortunate to work on numerous research projects in varied fields and received a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Before continuing with Graduate School, I worked as a technician for a year where my experiences confirmed my interest in scientific research. Based on this, I have developed an interest in using interdisciplinary approaches to study genetic questions. UPGG is a flexible program that has provided a collaborative, encouraging and friendly environment for some great science. Currently I am in the Amrein lab working on taste perception in Drosophila and although it took me quite some time to find a lab, I am happy with my overall choice.
When not doing science, I enjoy camping, hiking, trying new restaurants (as you can see in my picture) and of course watching some Gator football! Overall, I am glad that I chose to do my graduate work here at Duke!
