Whitney Jones

My name is Whitney McRae Jones, and I joined the University Program in Genetics in the fall of 2001.  I grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, so I guess I am a native to the area.  I graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville with a degree in Biology and Psychology in May of 2001.  I spent my undergraduate years in a variety of labs doing projects that never seemed to work out.  Undeterred by my lack of success, I decided to continue to pursue my interest in genetics here at Duke.  After four rotations, I joined the lab of Amy Bejsovec and I am working on components of the wingless signaling pathway in Drosophila.  I love Duke and UPG.  This is a great program, very flexible and supportive of a broad range of research interests.  It also allows you to interact with a variety of students in many different disciplines.   My only difficulty is, having grown up in Raleigh, graduating from UVA and now being at Duke, I sometimes have problems deciding who to pull for in the ACC tournament!
