Hi, I’m originally from Alabama but packed it up and spent four years in Providence, Rhode Island to attend Brown University. While at Brown I worked on several different projects in the lab of Dr. Gary Wessel. The Wessel lab uses sea urchins to study fertilization and urchin development. Also during that time, I spent summer vacations working in the lab of Dr. Anne Theibert at the University of Alabama, Birmingham where they study phosphoinositide signaling and the cytoskeleton in neurons. I decided to come to Duke and the beautiful state of North Carolina for the broad range of opportunities offered by the umbrella programs at the university and the far more civilized weather. I joined UPGG by way of the Developmental Biology Program after joining the lab of Dr. Danny Lew. In the Lew lab I’m studying the establishment of cell polarity in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
