Karen Hayden

Hello my name is Karen Hayden, and I am a self-proclaimed centromere biologist in Hunt Willard’s lab. My thesis project focuses on centromeric sequence evolution and mechanisms involved in the concerted evolution.
I completed my B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (followed by ‘go vols’), and obtained my M.S. in genetics from Case Western Reserve University in snowy Cleveland, OH. I entered the UPGG program at Duke last spring (’06) and found my niche among sequence patterns and unlimited coffee. Duke is an incredible environment for scientific training as it encourages interdisciplinary interactions and offers some pretty impressive facilities to do cutting-edge science.
