Hello,
I grew up in a small town in southern Indiana (with only a single stoplight) named Ferdinand. I received my B.S. degree in Cell and Developmental Biology from Purdue University in 2006. While at Purdue I worked in the lab of Henry Chang studying the endocytic regulation of the Notch signaling pathway in Drosophila. I came to Duke in the fall of 2006 through the CMB program and have since joined UPGG as a member of David Sherwood's lab. In the Sherwood lab we use C. elegans as a model organism, studying the Cell and Molecular Biology of a particular cell, called the anchor cell, as an in vivo model for cell invasion. My primary project in the lab has been time-lapse microscopy of the invasion event with hopes of better understanding the mechanisms that endow invasive cells with their remarkable ability to traverse basement membranes. Outside of the lab I enjoy running, kayaking, and fishing.
