I graduated from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) with a major in biology and a minor in visual arts. I developed a love of genetics in the lab of Dr. Judith Berman studying the opportunistic pathogen Candida albicans. During that time I investigated chromosome rearrangements and their relation to drug resistance, studied a family of telomere associated genes, and ate a lot of Bánh mě.
I chose to come to Duke: A) because of the enthusiastic students and faculty, B) because I'm interested in chromatin and the role of DNA conformation in gene expression, and C) because we can go to the ocean for the weekend!
When I'm not studying and/or pipetting, my husband and I like to go on hikes, play card/boardgames, and cook exotic foods.
