I graduated from Delhi University (India) with a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, followed by a Masters in Biomedical Sciences. Both these areas interested me a great deal, but I always found my basic Genetics courses the most exciting, and thus, chose this doctoral program.
I am now working in an Imprinting lab, under the supervision of Dr. Randy Jirtle. Our lab focuses on the evolutionary and regulatory aspects of imprinting, and is also attempting computational approaches for the prediction of imprinted genes. The ultimate goal is to be able to correlate epigenetic phenomena with complex and behavioral diseases, as well as cancer.
Outside the lab, I love reading, swimming, butterfly and bird-watching, and traveling ... one of the biggest motivation factors for coming to the US!
I think I made an extremely good decision by choosing the UPGG program, as its flexibility allowed me to experience extremely diverse labs, as well as courses, before I finally chose the lab for my thesis work. Also, help and advice from all the people in the program was instrumental in my being able to settle down in a completely new area, and I’m really glad that I came here!
