Hi Everyone :)

I hale originally from Syracuse NY, but have also lived in New Hampshire, Florida, Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina (so I have no idea where I am “from”). I received my BS in Environmental Science from that other school down the road, UNC-Chapel Hill, but even that could not keep me from pursuing graduate work at Duke. I actually started off at Duke as a member of the Integrated Toxicology and Environmental Health Program, but since they do not grant degrees (and I would really like one of those someday) I joined the University Program in Genetics and Genomics at the start of my second year. (So for all you cool people out there who are wondering why you did not join the UPGG yet it’s not too late!)

My scientific interests lie in the study of gene-environment interactions and genetic epidemiology. Thus, through many a twist of fate, I am conducting my research work at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences with Dr. David Schwartz, which has been an amazing experience thus far. My dissertation work focuses on investigating the genetic heterogeneity and environmental risk factors involved in familial interstitial pneumonia using a combination of statistical and laboratory techniques.
