Bayly Wheeler

Hi! I’m Bayly. Originally from a suburb of Chicago I did my undergrad in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. While in Ann Arbor I began working in the lab of Sally Camper trying to determine the role of Notch2 in the development of the pituitary, and it was there that I fell in love with genetics. I chose Duke for many reasons; one being its depth in genomics, which I feel is an asset unique to Duke. I love that the environment here is truly collaborative and that graduate education is a priority to the faculty and staff. Also, the winters don’t last quite as long down here.
Last spring I joined the Willard lab, which is a part of the Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy. My project focuses on using a fission yeast assay to explore heterochromatin barriers in yeast and other eukaryotes.
