Lee Szkotnicki

I attended a branch campus of Penn State (Behrend) located in Erie, Pennsylvania, which is also my home town. Originally I had planned to transfer to main campus, just to get away and see some more of the world. Yet, after becoming immersed in the diverse undergraduate research I realized the close working relationship between PIs and students found at Behrend was something that I could never get at a school with 50,000 students. It was in fact this reason that I also Duke for grad school. Currently I am a UPG student working in Danny Lew’s lab. The lab studies polarity and morphogenesis in the budding yeast S. cerevisiae. The area that I have focused my studies is in trying to determine if Mih1p, a Cdc25p type phosphatase, is regulated as suggested by genetic data and various homologues. Thus far work is going well and I really am enjoying grad school and Duke.
