I am interested in the role of complement factor H (CFH) in the pathobiology of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of blindness in the United States. Specifically, I am studying the functional significance of the AMD-associated Y402H SNP in CFH through the use of our lab's human CFH mice. Also, I am exploring the functional significance of systemic-derived versus local-derived CFH in the prevention of AMD pathologies.
