Research Description:
I am interested in using computational, experimental and evolutionary systems biology to understand how Eukaryotes originated, diversified, and how gene regulatory networks evolve and rewire through evolutionary time. My PhD is focused in characterizing the cell cycle control network in the early diverging fungi Fungi ("chytrids"), a transitional non-model lineage in which we have found there is coexistence of ancestral (animal) and derived (fungal) network components. Concomitantly, my work aims to emphasize how non-model organisms can be developed to address long-standing questions in evolution and key issues in developmental systems biology.
